In the world of pigments, there is a beautiful family of colors called Quinacridones. Originally developed for the automotive industry, when formulated as professional paints for artists, these pigments are vibrant, lightfast, and transparent. Through their broad range of Quinacridone Watercolors, Daniel Smith allows watercolorists to enjoy these properties. The video below focuses mainly on swatching and on exploring the tonal depth of these colors. For additional pigment information, please scroll down below after watching the video.
Daniel Smith Quinacridone Watercolors
Daniel Smith’s quinacridone watercolor range offers four red pigment-based quinacridones. Quinacridone Lilac, Quinacridone Magenta, Quinacridone Fuchsia, and Quinacridone Coral. Then we have Quinacridone Red, Quinacridone Violet, Quinacridone Rose, Quinacridone Pink, and Quinacridone Purple. These five are what you would call violet pigment-based Quinacridones. Quinacridone Burnt Scarlet, Quinacridone Burnt Orange, Quinacridone Gold, Quinacridone Deep Gold, and Quinacridone Sienna are on the earth-orange side of things.
What To Expect From Quinacridone Watercolors
Quinacridone pigments flow exceptionally for delicately smooth washes, possess incredible color richness and can be lifted easily while still wet. They’re outstandingly strong yet transparent, excellent for glazing, beautiful mixing colors, and a strong community of artists prefer them as vibrant replacements for earth pigments.
I will be adding photos of full swatches in a few weeks.
