A rural delight, Baan Suan Ka Fe in Chiang Mai, Thailand is the true definition of a modern jungle cafe. Beautifully located in the foothills of Doi Pui on the way to Doi Kham (where the Royal Project gardens are) and with a mountain stream running through the middle part of the area, the cafe is a lovely getaway from the city. Mostly frequented by the locals, this “gem” is relatively unknown to foreigners.
Albeit a bit far from downtown Chiang Mai, the relaxing atmosphere at Baan Suan Ka Fe is well worth the drive. As what the Thais would say, “It’s all sabai sabai out here.” Sabai, meaning “Relax, take it easy.” If you’re craving for some time to commune with nature, to de-stress and detach from the outside world, this is the perfect place. There is no wifi connection available here and the tables are made for lounging.
Coffee is excellent and for non-coffee lovers, there are plenty of options for you too. I particularly loved their “Green Tea Float.” Their food menu doesn’t disappoint either. We didn’t order much since prior to our visit at the cafe, we indulged on a huge brunch. However, we absolutely enjoyed their Siomai, Shrimp Roti, and Spicy Stir-Fry Pork Barbeque that came with a cup of sticky rice. Baan Suan Ka Fe’s large, open space makes it great for families and large groups, but it’s just as pleasant for couples and single travelers.
